ADVERTISEMENTS
The Sherwood Foundation for the Arts in cooperation with the Voices for the Performing Arts, the City of Sherwood, and the Sherwood School District will be presenting “The Secret Garden” from July 22-24 on the Stella Olsen Park Stage at 7:30 p.m.
The classic 1909 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, was produced for the first time as a musical on Broadway in 1991. Nominated and winner of many Tony awards this musical provides all the charm and sweetness of the tale of healing and love found in the novel, and brings new depth with some of the most brilliant and challenging music ever written and produced for a musical.
The performance features a cast of more than 40 and a production team that has been hard at work for many months to prepare and present this beautiful story. “The Secret Garden” is a story of a young girl, Mary, whose parents die and is left to the care of her reclusive and broken-hearted widower, Uncle Archibald.
The story weaves it’s tale of love and healing from the heat of India to the calmness and comfort of an English garden.
Mary finds that through the nurture and care of the garden her deceased Aunt Lily loved so dearly, she discovers a way to bring not only the bloom of color back to the garden, but also the beauty of love and family back to the soulless mansion where she’d been sent after the deaths of her parents.
Our cast will be previewing the musical throughout the day, Saturday, July 17, on the Robin Hood Festival Family Stage. Tickets can be purchased at Let’s Make Music and online at www.sherwoodarts.org beginning July 1.
Seating is limited. Information about tickets, sponsorships, and volunteer opportunities can be found on the Sherwood Foundation for the Arts website.
