Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality has hit Sherwood’s Western Industrial Ceramics Inc. with a $6,348 penalty for failing to obtain a required stormwater discharge permit.
The plant at 10725 S.W. Tualatin-Sherwood Road is required to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System 1200-Z General Permit because it is conducting an industrial, commercial or other type of activity that can cause a discharge of wastes into surface waters.
Stormwater runoff from land and areas such as paved streets, parking lots and building rooftops during rainfall and snow events often contain pollutants that could adversely affect water quality.
Western Industrial Ceramics has appealed the penalty.
