On Wednesday, Jan. 6, St. Paul Lutheran in Sherwood will start up a Wednesday Soup Kitchen that is open to everyone.
Debbie Martinez, a church volunteer who coordinates the Christ Care program, said the kitchen isn’t only for the down and out but designed for the elderly and lonely as well.
“This is the first time we’ve ever had a soup kitchen,” said Martinez, who worked in the food service industry for 30 years.
Donations taken up during a recent Christmas show netted $135 to get the soup kitchen off the ground, she said. The on-going Wednesday event will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature a variety of soups, bread/crackers, hot drinks and desserts.
“I’m so excited,” said Martinez. “I want to see people get together. I want people to come together in fellowship.”
She said the church’s Thanksgiving dinner was a great success as well with the church feeding 48 people at the event.
Those interested in coming to the soup kitchen should call 503-633-0225 or send an e-mail to jeffdeb@stpaultel.com.
St. Paul Lutheran is located at 17500 SW Cedarview Way.
