David Rosenfeld of Portland said he tried to buy tickets to get into the event and planned to play the Bob Dylan song “Masters of War” in the meeting, but his money was returned to him.
“We just wanted to let Rove know that he’s not welcome in Portland,” Rosenfeld said.
Gary Lineker of Portland was holding a cardboard sign with one word on it – “Impeach.”
“I think it’s incredibly important for folks to protest the trouble that this country is in, and do it peaceably,” Lineker said. “And I’m glad to be out here with these people doing the same thing.”
Why give so much attention to Karl Rove? “He is clearly one of the major voices of this administration,” Lineker said.
There is a pending federal lawsuit against Rove, Vice President Dick Cheney and others by former ambassador Joseph Wilson and his wife, outed CIA spy Valerie Plame Wilson. Joseph Wilson accused the Bush Administration in July 2003 of twisting pre-war intelligence on Iraq, and Plame’s covert CIA identity was leaked to the press. Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby was recently convicted of lying to a grand jury and to FBI agents investigating the disclosure.
Inside the Embassy Suites, speaking of the war in Iraq, Rove outlined the goals of Osama bin Laden to drive the West out of the Middle East and establish a Muslim empire.
“This is an epic struggle. One side is going to win and one side is going to lose,” Rove told the applauding Republicans. “Now I don’t know about you, but when it comes to this struggle, I know who I want to win. I want the United States of America to win… and we’ll win, just as we did against Nazism, fascism and communism.”

And why, Ms. Teater, would a visit by Rove be "banner headline" news?

and appeals to reduce his conviction.
Go figure, delay out of congress, john bolton reduced to talking head, gonzales-gate brewing and wolfowictz being pushed out of the world bank...who's left expect impeachment and indictments for high crimes and misdemeanors.
the next six months will be very telling.

I was in the Embassy Suites when the protesters in side were asked to leave by the police. When this happened they turned around and started leaving. I witnessed two different police officers push this women as they were leaving. This was totally upprovoked and makes me very nervous. Does this mean that the police can just push someone for no reason? I am sure if the person pushed turned around and pushed back they would have been arrested and probably beaten. This is scary. I will say that most of the police were fine, but a couple of agressive ones give the whole force a bad rap. I filmed this on my cell phone and notified the Police Chief, Mayor and City Council. To date, no one has responded as to whether this is acceptable behavior.

Mr John Boote, The comment/remark you are accusing me of making re the "wargonian" was not made by me.
My name is spelled without the h.
Please do not use my last name in references unless you are sure it really is me.
Just because I was at the protest, does not mean I was the only teresa /theresa there.
And now in Clarification, I did post on an alternative website site 4 days before the event, that I was pretty certain it would be at the Embassey Suites

Re: Rove's Portland visit draws little attention
Certainly, the local capitalist media collaborated in keeping the Rove visit unknown. Was there a banner headline on the Snoregonian, "Karl Rove to visit Portland Area?"
"theresa"
