SHERWOOD – The 2009-2010 school year sure proved to be a successful year for Sherwood High School sports teams.
And, to no surprise, the Sherwood seniors played a big role in the success of the Bowmen squads.
Here’s a quick look at some of the Sherwood seniors who stepped up big for the Bowmen in the past school year.
Katie Mariman and Frances Pavao helped Sherwood end the sports year in a big way – a very big way. Mariman and Pavao each claimed state titles at the Class 5A state track and field championships held in late May at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Pavao won her second straight state championship in the high jump event. She cleared 5 feet, 5 inches to win the title this year.
Mariman claimed her first state championship, triumphing in the pole vault competition at state with a personal-best, and school-record height of 11-9.
Nicky Schoen turned his quickness and speed into many big plays for the Sherwood boys soccer and basketball teams. In the soccer season, Schoen, a midfielder, earned second-team all-Northwest Oregon Conference honors. In the basketball season, Schoen, who started at point guard for the Bowmen, was a third-team all-league selection.
Josh Wagg was a first-team all-league pick on offense, at guard, and on defense, as a linebacker, for the Bowmen football squad that reached the semifinal round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Ty Rosevear won the NWOC district wrestling tournament title in the 160-pound weight class and he went on to place third in that weight at the Class 5A state tournament.
Hayley Baker and Morgan Lushenko teamed to win the doubles consolation championship at the Class 5A girls tennis state tournament.
