SHERWOOD — Tanner Kichler had a great day pitching for the Sherwood-based Tonkin Nissan OIBA baseball team.
The Sherwood High School senior-to-be threw a complete-game one-hitter in leading Tonkin Nissan to a 7-0 win over Sandy in a game played Monday at Sherwood.
But, statistically-speaking at least, Kichler wasn’t even Tonkin Nissan’s best pitcher for the day.
You see, Kichler pitched the first game of the doubleheader with Sandy.
In the second game of the twinbill, Jordan Ramp, also a Sherwood senior-to-be, spun a complete-game no-hitter in leading Tonkin Nissan to a 9-0 victory over Sandy.
“I haven’t seen anything like that in a long time,” Tonkin Nissan coach Jon Strohmaier said. “What’s really great is that they’re two different style of pitchers.”
Kichler, in his pitching gem, struck out nine Sandy batters and he allowed just a bloop single to right field in the fourth inning.
“He struggled with his curveball early,” Strohmaier said. “In the third inning or so, he started throwing his breaking ball for strikes.”
