You probably won't encounter a covered wagon, but the new trail in Tualatin Valley will lead you through a list of local breweries serving up fresh pints.
The Washington County Visitors Association is launching an online rewards system called the Tualatin Valley Ale Trail Passport to encourage residents to support craft breweries across the region.
The passport is free and launches Jan. 3. Preregistration is available.
Once signed up, participants can check in at each of the breweries — in Beaverton, Tigard and Hillsboro — and rack up points to be redeemed for prizes like a bottle opener, coasters, socks and beanies. Some breweries will offer special discounts or other incentives to passport holders.
Seventeen local breweries, including Binary, Great Notion, Golden Valley and Three Mugs, are participating in the ale trail. More breweries may be added, and a full list of participating locations is available here.
“Due to the success of our paper Ale Trail passport, we have decided to go mobile and gamify it,” said Dave Parulo, president and CEO of the visitors association, in a statement. "In an effort to support local businesses and encourage exploration around the region, the new mobile Ale Trail will allow guests to check in with ease, gather points faster and cash in on great prizes, discounts and more."
The visitors association launched a similar physical passport in spring 2022, which at that time did not offer prizes, though some participating breweries had their own incentives for passport holders.
This year's passport is online, and does not require an app to be downloaded. Participants must be 21 years old or older.
